A small town in Southern Florida, has recently been in the newspapers, talking about attacks on small dogs. People walking their dogs in the evening have been under attack by vicious Coyotes. It is the mating season for the Coyotes and they and they are hungry and also to feed their pups, if they have some already. They have been appearing suddenly and make a vicious attack on the small dogs, grabbing them by the back of the neck and trying to run off with them. All the people are walking their dogs with leashes and chains, but the suddenness of the attack scares the holder of the chain and the dogs are jerked away from them. Three have been lost to the Coyotes, three have had the owners yell and try to beat them off with a stick or club. One man was pulled to the ground, but the Coyote lost his grip on the dog and then when the man got up, the Coyote grabbed the small Pooch again. But, by this time some other people had come to aid the dog owner, and together they scarred the Coyote away, after he dropped the dog. The dog was rushed to a veterinarian and had multiple wounds in his neck, but he will live. The man had several bad bruises from his fall, but he is doing fine.
The last report was yesterday. A cat was in a screened porch was missing. The screen was ripped and tufts of hair were on the floor, so a Coyote was assumed to have gotten the cat.
People walking their dogs, and also for their own protection, (because the area has Florida Panthers roaming around loose also), should have some type of protection. A whistle, a large stick, and some Bear spray. Mace makes such a item. It is in gel form and can shoot 20 to 30 feet distance. It contains hot pepper mixed with the gel and has been tested in Alaska on large bears. One model is cailed Alaska Bear Spray, the other is called Pepper Mace Bear Spray. Hollering and yelling helps, but is just not enough. For more info, see our website http://charliesprotectonproducts.com, or write to info@charliesprotectionproducts.com

Bear spray, stun guns by Charlie

Bear spray is now a very common product sold to campers going into state parks out West. Too many people were getting into trouble trying to take pictures of bears, close up. With the spray, just sprayed into the air, the bears would leave. Also, women were buying it to protect themselves from muggers. They can just carry it in their purse or hold it in their hand, when they go to and from the Mall or Grocery store. The ladies can also carry their car keys in their hand, if they have one of those that make their horn blow, which will usually scare muggers away.
Stun Guns are another item for ladies to use against muggers, but unlike Bear Spray, you have to be in contact with the person. Sometimes, just turning the stun gun on, the brilliant sparking and noise will scare the person away. Otherwise, you have to touch the person with the stun gun to semi paralyze the person. The attacker is then incapacitated and then you can get away out of harms way. You should always call for help and report the attack to the local police.
Getting back to the bear spray, there are smaller versions called Mace or Pepper Spray. Some come with leather holsters and Key ring holders. They range in price from approximately $10.00 to $25.00.
The stun guns range in price from $25.00 to $75.00, depending upon the voltage and also the size. Some are pocket size, some are about 8 inches long and there are holsters available for all of them.

Security Products: Stun Guns and Tasers

Security products using electronic guns or stunning machines are typically called stun guns. Stun guns are available in various electronic charge ratings. A person must be touched by two small prongs on the end of the device in order to be able to send an electronic charge to the assailant, so you have to almost have to be in bodily contact with the other person. Sometimes just turning the stun gun on will deter am assailant. They make a crackling noise and a spark jumps across the gap between the two prongs.
There are also stun batons, which come in various lengths such as 16, 18 or even 20 inches in length. Also, there are several new models out now. One looks like a cell phone and delivers a whopping 950,000 volts. Another one is a flashlight/stun gun combination. The latest of the stun guns is the Taser models, discharging several electronic bolts, attached to wires that strike the person, disabling him. The wires are about 15 feet long, so you do not have to get as close to the person. This is a very potent gun and the darts or bolts affect the nervous system of the person.
If you are considering any of these items, please be careful and learn how to use them.
Until next time…

Self Protection Security Products

I am now talking about Self Protection using noise producers and light blinders or “blinkies”. One such item is called a “screecher” alarm. It emits an ear piercing blast that’s readily recognized as a call for help. Another is an Electronic Whistle, emitting a loud 120DB whistle. It can be used as a safety alarm for crime prevention or police for traffic duty, a locator in emergencies, dog handling, a referee for sports games, etc. When out walking the dog, just push a button to keep pests away.
Another type, a wedge shaped door alarm. Goes off when someone opens a door uninvited. A keychain alarm with a flashing light, a door alarm, hanging on the door knob, goes off when someone touches the knob, a magnetic door alarm, bolted to the door jamb or the side of a window, and goes off with noise when someone opens the door or window. How about an item called “Secure Dog”. When an intruder gets near the door it starts barking like an angry dog, scaring possible crooks away, and a pool alarm that sounds an audible alarm when children or pets fall into the pool. Dog Chaser, dog spray—various types or names on the market and we sell the Mace brand. Let’s talk a little bit about the Dog Chaser. Walkers, cyclists, delivery people police officers are all good customers for this type of product, basically anyone coming in contact with stray animals of any sort. Dog Chaser is usually associated with aggressive dogs, to keep them away, or just to scare them away and quit barking, without hurting them. The Chaser is not a spray, but a very high frequency sound, audible to animals, but not to humans. It bothers animals up to 15 feet away. It has also been used to train dogs. When the dog does or is doing something wrong or bad, you press the button and it usually stops them from doing what-ever they were doing. Mail and delivery people usually carry this type of item. They’re very handy and help you from getting bitten or from having a friendly dog jump all over you. It emits a high frequency, and discomforting sound to the animals, but does not injure them.

Face Spray or Pepper Spray?

Face spray, another name for Pepper spray. Probably got that name by associating it with spraying it into
A persons face when using it as a deterrent against an attack. The thick foam covers an assailants face, making it difficult to see and when the attacker attempts to wipe it away, the pepper is ground into the face, allowing the attacked person to get away. Most pepper spray now has ultra violet dye in it. This helps identify an assailant after he/she is caught. The person can be xrayed under UV light and identified. Some of the superior grades of pepper spray have high grade of pepper, causing coughing, choking and a burning sensation. Most of the models of spray will shoot approx. 6 to 12 feet. Try not to spray into the wind so that you will not be blinded also.
Safe vacation in New Jersey

I’m taking a two month vacation to New Jersey, where I own a small condo on the Jersey shore. New Jersey laws currently say “No” to any types of Mace, pepper spray, stun guns, knives, slingshots, real pistols, or anything else that could do drastic harm. SO, how does one protect them self? Well, I am taking a telescopic baton with a LED attached flashlight. It can act as a billy-club or as a walking light. Extended it can lash out at somebody, making them keep their distance. Also, I have a whistle that I hang around my neck to help get attention if ever needed. Both are legal to carry on your person or in your car for protection.
Unfortunately now-a-days it is not walking dark streets at night. Another problem is driving. If you have engine trouble or a flat tire, you must be wary of a citizen offering help. I have an AAA card and a cell phone. Best to call for help, even considering it may take a bit longer. Also, call 911 and report you are stuck and disclose your approximate location. If you have ”help” signs, warning triangles, and/or road flares, you should put those out where people can see them. But always be wary. Hopefully a police car will be along and offer assistance
Blinkies and Screechers

It’s that time again. Time to think about thinking what to write. Let’s talk about some of the products we sell. How about “blinkies”? I have one on the back of each of my bicycles. When I ride during the day and during the night, the blinkies show up and let others know that I am in front of them. My girlfriend has a pair of “blinkie” earrings. I even see some ladies with blinkie finger rings and some on their shoes. There are some that attach to your arm and when you are out walking you dog, or while you are walking alone, they help to keep you safe.
Then there are “screechers”, a sharp whistle. At the first sign of trouble, just blow. They are samll and very easy to carry. There are so many new things on the market to help protect one’s self. Protection is a serious problem nowadays. We have so many races or people wanting to get into our country. Some good, some bad…but I am a firm believer that we need to stop the illegal aliens from entering the United States of America. Unfortunately, our police departments are not always available, so it’s a good idea to be able to protect yourself.
“Walk softly and carry a big stick”
Women walking to their cars at malls or large grocery stores are vulnerable to car thieves. It’s not a problem for them to just walk up behind you, point a gun at you, demand thier/your purse and or car keys. Sometimes they will take you as a hostage. Even though security guards patrol parking lots, they can’t be everywhere. So, some protection measures are always a point of interest in your favor. I’ve always been known to say…”It’s best to be prepared”.

Hello my fellow blog readers!

Here I am again, writing another Blog. This time I’ll tell you something about myself and why I like the business I’m in:
I’m 79 years old, white hair, 205 lbs. I like to exercise with weights. My legs have metal rods in both knees, so I have trouble trying to run. I had the operation done on both knees at once…March of 2004. I was born in Cicero, Illinois (that’s the crime center of Illinois during the Al Capone era). Graduated from high school in 1944 and then enlisted in the Navy in 1945. Trained in Banana River (near Cape Canaveral) in single engine seaplanes, (such as were launched off of Cruisers and Battleships). After 15 hours of solo time, the school closed down…too many enlisted pilots, and trained as an airplane mechanic. I spent most of my time in Hawaii, flying as a Plane Captain, and doing submarine locating and chasing. The planes were much bigger now, twin engine Lockheeds, carrying two torpedoes. Also, I became a machine gunner. I learned pistol and rifle shooting and became a Navy Distinguished Marksman in both categories. I was released in 1948 with a Honorable Discharge and joined the Naval Reserve.
I started civilian life working as an apprentice cabinet maker. Then I was called back into the service in 1952 and served 2 years with a new squadron, back in Hawaii. We had bigger torpedo planes and also 4 engine transports. Beside submarine locating, we also ferried helicopters into Japan with our transports. We were able to get 6 small choppers into our planes, and then on the way back, we carried wounded military personnel and civilians to Hawaii.
I got out in 1954 with another Honorable Discharge. I then went back and finished my cabinet making apprenticeship. After awhile I became an outside carpenter and later formed a construction company. During this, I became a Reserve Police Officer and served 16 years on the police department. Then in 1960, 3 pals and I started a sporting goods store and pistol shooting range. Here we sold stun guns, Mace and other home and self defense protection products. In 1970 we opened another store and then in 1976 I moved to Naples, Florida and opened the third sporting goods store. We lasted roughly 16 years before Wal-Mart opened nearby and then I along with 3 other parties in the sporting goods business were forced to close our doors. So, I took up selling home protection products with my 2 web sites. There is a very good place for this kind of merchandise, especially here in Naples, Florida.
Here, where ladies are prey for muggers in parking lots or if a female is out late at night alone, they should have something for protection. A small canister of tear gas or Mace is very handy to have at those times Stun guns are a very good deterrent also. Home owners can have security systems around their homes with a monitor and several hidden cameras. Or, if there was a burglar, a diversion safe would be of help to put valuables into. This way the burglar won’t notice them. Hidden cameras placed outside alerting you to prowlers, also, taking pictures of movement outside. Some companies use hidden cameras to watch personnel at work, or to check on thieves who pocket small items from shelves in stores. Hideen cameras are also useful on job sites to keep track of deliverys or work progress.
This is a rewarding business because there is a need for some small self protection items, to protect ones self and I am glad that what I sell can and will be of some good. Even if it never gets to be used, at least you have the assurance and piece of mind it’s there if you need it.
